BDSc (DH) | Dental Hygiene Practitioner (C)

Welcome!
Hello! My name is Amber and I am pleased to welcome you to my ePortfolio! I graduated from The University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Dental Science in 2016 and currently work as a dental hygienist in private practice. I also work part-time at UBC as a clinical instructor for the second and third year dental hygiene students.
Here you will find a collection of my values, goals, and experiences that have moulded and guided me throughout my professional practice so far.
Thank you for taking the time to explore my ePortfolio and learn more about who I am!
Oral health is an important part of overall health and wellness. A healthy mouth is a significant contributing factor to an individual’s level of confidence, ability to maintain a healthy diet, and it also reduces other systemic health risks such as heart disease. As a dental hygienist, my approach to care embraces oral health as an investment in life. I commit myself to a holistic, client-centred practice that supports individuals in making autonomous and evidence-based decisions to achieve optimal oral health.

I believe that setting goals keep you focussed and motivated to improve. The goals I set for myself as a dental hygienist encourage me to keep learning and continue to step out of my comfort zone to become a better health care provider.
Here you will find accounts and self-reflections of my most notable achievements and experiences in my dental hygiene career so far. I am proud to have explored the different the roles of a dental hygienist including: clinical therapist in private and community practice, an educator, a published author, advocate, and health promoter.
